The City of Roseville has released the 2009 Tryout Handbook. It is now available on-line on our sugarbear website (www.sugarbears.org). If you have a friend or neighbor who is interested in joining the team this year, be sure and share the information with them.
Tryouts will be Saturday April 18th and Tuesday April 21st at Oakmont Community Pool.
There will also be a New Parent Registration Meeting after Tryouts on Wednesday, April 22nd 7pm at Maidu Community Center.
Registration packets for our returning Sugarbears is expected to be mailed out soon.
Please mark your calendar for our Parent Kickof Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 5th.
There will be many changes this year, so it is important that new and seasoned Sugarbear parents attend this year's Parent Kickoff Meeting.
Signups for the upcoming Spring Swim Clinics with the City of Roseville have been popular this year, but there is still room. If interested, look for additional details on our Sugarbear website.
Go Sugarbears!
Season's Greetings!
Spring into action before our summer swim season!
Nice feature article on long-time Sugarbear and coach Mary Tess Taylor was released today on www.gobulldogs.com. Here is a link to the article: The Path To Division I Swimming
As many of you know, Roseville Sugarbear Cecilia Bustamante was unable to swim this past summer. She has been in and out of the hospital for the past year battling Crohn's Disease. Cecilia's sister, Catie, swam as a Sugarbear this past summer and the family was awarded the Paul Clotfelter Memorial Award for their courage and resilience. The Bustamante's have been an active and supportive Sugarbear family, but this past summer (and entire year) has been of extreme hardship.
Our Year End Survey results for 2008 have been posted and now available on-line. Click here to access the evaluations.
Thank you for all of those that took the time to fill out the survey and providing us with your feedback.
It is also worthwhile this time of year to review our list of parent responsibilities for the Sugarbears, which describes the difference between Wishbones, Jawbones, Knucklebones and Backbones. Sugarbears have a long history and tradition of being a support organization with a high percentage of backbones.
Our Sugarbear website has been updated with the schedule of our board meetings, times and locations planned during the off-season. Please note that these meetings are open to all Sugarbear parents and we welcome your participation and impact. You can (and do) make a difference!

Hope you and your family have been entertained and inspired by the recent performances of Michael Phelps and his team mates in the Olympics!
Some quick reminders and updates for Sugarbears.
We have a season recap meeting with the City of Roseville this Thursday, August 21st, from 6-7pm in the Riley Library (next to the Sports Center). This will include an information session regarding our expected change to joining the NorCal league this year. Click here for a page of FAQs on the expected changes. Immediately following the meeting will be a Roseville Aquatic Teams Booster Club (RATBC) Meeting (from 7-8pm). If you plan to attend the meeting(s) please let our VFCAL rep Megan Henry MHenry@roseville.ca.us. Sugarbear parents are not required to attend, but we want to make you aware of the upcoming meetings in case you are interested in attending. Also, feel free to contact any one of our board members, if you have any additional questions or concerns that you want to have represented and not already voiced within our survey.
Have yet to fill out a survey?
Click here and take the 5-10 minutes to complete our Sugarbear Year End Evaluation Survey.
We have received 35 responses so far. A completed survey before September 1st puts your name in the hat for a drawing for a 2009 FREE registration fee.
A reminder that this coming Saturday, August 23rd beginning at 7:30pm is the annual Oakmont Alumni Water Polo game at Oakmont Community Pool. Great chance for a Sugarbear to see some exciting water polo played in live action.
For those following water polo in the Olympics, the U.S. Men's team upset Croatia and are playing today (August 18th) in the hunt for a medal, going up against Germany in the final day of the Men's Preliminary competition.

Excellent job today!

A reminder that our Swim-A-Thon pledges are due this Friday, July 6th. Thank you for everyone that participated in our Swim-A-Thon. Excellent! The number of laps completed by each swimmer is accessible on our Sugarbear website.

Justin Sutter has set a new Roseville Sugarbear Team record in the Boys 15-18 50 Breast event this year.
Justin actually broke the record in Granite Bay posting a 28.72. Yesterday, Justin once again surpassed the previous Team Record (29.15) held by Brad Dawson by posting a 28.92.
Congratulations Justin!
Our Meet Results with Auburn are now accessible on our website. Was that a cool meet or what? Very fun, competitive and close throughout the day. Be sure and checkout scoring by the different age groups. The future is ours! The additional Top Time and Improvement reports to follow.
A reminder that our 9-12 Broom Ball Social is tomorrow (Monday) at Skate Town located on 1009 Orlando Ave (783-8550). Sugarbears are asked to arrive as early as 3:30 to get setup and instructed for this exciting and fun activity on the ice (~4:00-5:30pm). We apologize for the early start, but we were limited in our options in securing time on the ice. If you have not RSVP'd for this social and still want to attend, please contact Karen Salatti or Megan Hoppes asap, so they can ensure we have enough pizza and soda (5:30-7pm). Joining the social at 5:30pm is an option, but please RSVP! Their contact information can be found in our on-line roster.
Next weekend (June 30th) is a BYE. The Theme being relaxation. We hope all our families have a safe, relaxing and enjoyable Fourth of July Holiday.
Well deserved.

A reminder that our home meet theme for this Saturday with the Auburn Robalos is the Wonderful World of Disney!
Here is your chance, especially parents, to really be Goofy and Mickey Mouse around. Don't forget your swim buddies. How about a right mouse click and printing out their Personal Best Times from our on-line Goals Database and making a "Good Luck" card out of it? What? They don't have their times entered? For shame. Use the Top Times report and enter the times in for them! Thanks Buddy!!
Hey, great turnout at the Swim-A-Thon today! Not sure on the running tally from pledges, but very impressed with the number of laps all of our swimmers were able to swim! Awesome!!
A final reminder that tomorrow is Age Group Picture Day!
Be sure and show up in time so you are included in the picture with your fellow swim mates.
Age group pictures of Sugarbears have proven to be a priceless keepsake for many swimmers. Even if you don't plan to purchase one yourself, do your friends a favor and bless them with your presence.

Sugarbears Parent Kickoff Nite Reminder
The swim suit style for the Roseville Sugarbears is changing this year.
Last year we brought back the brass bell to be rung whenever a Sugarbear swimmer posts a new personal best. We had a whole lot of "bell ringing" going on last summer!
The Roseville Fire Department held a lottery this morning for the eleven available fireworks booth permits. The Roseville Aquatics Booster Club (RATBC) was not selected. There were 54 organizations entered into the lottery, so our chance of winning was about 20%.

Please join in congratulating Jef Huber and the rest of the 2007 officers in their ability to bounce into position and make an impact for another fantastic year!
Last year's officers, Pete Hradecky and Lisa Callaghan, both have swimmers that have decided to swim year round. We wish to thank them for their service and certainly wish them the best!
While Mickey Langley has agreed to serve a third term as Treasurer, the parent board would like to bring a new member on board to assume the role, or at least shadow Mickey for this term. Last year's numbers and the 2007 budget are already completed. So, if you are interested and can balance a checkbook, please contact a board member.

Returning Sugarbear swimmer online registration begins February 19th and ends March 9th.The 2007 swim meet schedule is being finalized and should be posted on our website next week.
The 2007 Tryout packet will be posted on our website as soon as it becomes available (~February 1st).
Sugarbears will be having an Ice Cream Social at Leatherby's (Antelope Rd/Sunrise Blvd) in Citrus Heights.
Yesterday, November 14th, VFCAL held a meeting to discuss and plan for 2007.

No rules or decisions were actually made at the meeting. The VFCAL swim League Representatives will meet over the next few months to review the comments, recommendations and suggestions that were made at the meeting and begin planning for a successful 2007 swim season.
The Sugarbears and Seawolves have jointly requested, that if July 7th is a BYE in 2007, that a dual meet with each other be scheduled for June 30th. If we are fortunate to have a fireworks booth again this year, we may hold our dual meet on July 7th in order to keep the June 30th date open and available for the fireworks booth.

Results and responses from our 2006 year end evaluations are now accessible on our Sugarbear website.
Thank you to those that took the time to fill out this year's survey. An effort was made to keep the responses anonymous.
As we continue to grow as a swim team/family, please keep in mind that "lots of hands make little work". Never underestimate what you can do to make our team more special and enjoyable. You can make a difference!

Your very own copy of our 2006 Year End Slide Show on DVD can now be purchased from our website. Cost is $10. We accept paypal or credit card payments on-line. Or, if you prefer, mail a check to Michael Taylor payable to "Roseville Sugarbears".

This Thursday night, July 13th from 7:30pm to 8:30pm there will be a waterpolo exhibition at the Oakmont Community Pool. Sugarbears and parents are invited to come and be introduced to this exciting and fun sport! Sugarbear swim parent, Mark Plank, is the waterpolo coach at Oakmont High School and Sugarbear Coach, Jordan Haley, is the waterpolo coach at Roseville High School. Come checkout the action and learn a bit about the sport and the programs being offered. Stinky tunes will also begin streaming on the pool deck at 6pm, with our Sugarbear make up practice running from 6pm-7pm prior to the exhibition. Hope to see you there!!!
